Martha Debartolo Obituary

Martha F. Debartolo March 25, 1920 - November 13, 2013 Montville - Martha F. DeBartolo, daughter of Vito and Angelina Aurichicco DeBartolo, died peacefully at her home in Montville on November 13, 2013, under the care of Health Care workers and Hospice. Martha was born on March 25, 1920 in Norwich where she resided with her parents who were born and raised in Bari, Italy. Living on a farm on Wawecus Hill Road until her father's death, she moved to Franklin Streeet at Columbus Park with her mother and her brothers, Frank, Joesph and Michael. Michael is the only surviving family member who has been living in Hollywood, FL. for 35 years. At a young age Martha worked in a woman's shop in downtown. Her flair for fashion and always looking fashionable was her early passion which continued throughout her life. Martha's work opportunities in retail flourished as she undertook managerial positions at Vality's, Ames, and Barkers department stores. In her eighties she clerked at retail store at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Martha had been married to Pat Papagalo, Richard Michonski, and Michael Paquette. She had no children of her own but easily took the role of mother by comforting, advising, and living a life rich in making each day a memory for those she loved. "Auntie Martie" became auntie to many, even though there was no relation, and hence this became her nickname. She befriended many young adults (and animals) by opening her door, her heart, and her life sharing her open minded ness and passion for life. "Auntie Martie" respected the views of others but always had the last word, saying "life is too short to spend time worring so get on with living". "Martie" is survived by many nephews and nieces, as well as many great nephews and nieces living across the Untied States and Australia. Martha's request was to have no calling or visiting hours but to have a memory that warms one's heart. Donations may be made to Hopice of CT or to any Animal Shelter.

Martie had a zest for life that was always an inspiration. Her personality as a caring individual who had this love of life made her a special person, thus, a special aunt. Every family gathering was highlighted with her laughs, ideas, energy, and her presence. "Growing up" with auntie will always be a memory held dear to my heart. I know that because of her lessons of life and closeness with me I have become the same, a caring auntie. Peace be with you ... Love always, Angie
