Norman Therrien Obituary

Norman Ulde Therrien January 6, 1925 - July 12, 2013 Putnam - Norman Ulde Therrien, 88, of Putnam, CT, passed away Friday July 12, 2013 at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Dumouchel) Therrien, They were married June 14, 1947, in Sacred Heart Church in Webster, MA, she passed away December 6, 2004. He was born January 6, 1925 in Thompson, CT, son of Ulde and Rose (Boucher) Therrien. Norman was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army Company C, 315th Engineer Battalion where he was awarded two Purple Hearts. He served in the European Theatre and arrived in France shortly after D-Day. He was honorably discharged December 8, 1945. He worked for Sysco as a saleman for several years, retiring in 1985. He had worked for other food service companies including a milkman for Deary Brothers Dairy. Norman enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the United States and abroad. After retiring he and his wife spent many years in Ft. Myers, Florida where they relaxed and played golf. Norman returned to Putnam after his wife's death. He was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, a loving and caring husband, father and "Pepe" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Norman always had a big smile and a great sense of humor, he could always make friends or strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He leaves his children Kathleen Raymond and her husband Richard of Putnam; Elaine Hall and her husband James of South Windsor; Michael Therrien of Putnam; his sister Muriel St. Hilaire of Putnam; grandchildren: Jeffrey, Neil, Brian, Adam, Jessica, Melanie, and ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT. A Calling Hour will be Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial with Military Honors in St. Mary Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Matulaitis Nursing Home for the care and kindness shown to their father. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Matulaitis, 10 Thurber Road, Putnam, CT. To share a memory with his family "Light a Candle" at www.smithandwalkerfh.com

My sincere sympathy on the loss of your father/grandfather. He was truly a nice guy. He was from the greatest generation and I know how proud you all were of him. We had some great times in past years. Sadly, we all get older and times change. Love to all.
