Phyllis Parkhurst Grenier

Phyllis Parkhurst Grenier March 7, 1924 - July 2, 2013 Voluntown - Phyllis Parkhurst Grenier, 89, of Main Street passed away at home on Tuesday July 2, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 7, 1924 in Norwich the daughter of the late Harold and Henrietta (Bradlaw) Parkhurst. She lived in Apponaug, RI for many years with her family before moving to Voluntown in 1945. On March 19, 1949 she married Arthur Grenier who predeceased her October 18, 2003. There were married for 54 years. Phyllis had been the head payroll clerk at the former Glasgo Finishing Co. She was a member of the Voluntown Baptist Church and served in many positions; secretary, Sunday superintendant, and teacher for many years. She was a member of the originators of the former Baptist Mr. and Mrs. Club. She was a member and past president of the former Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department. She was a member of the Voluntown Senior Citizens and had served on the Board of Education. She loved sewing as well as quilting, crewel embroidery, and crafts. She was an avid traveler, going to Europe 11 times and had gone on 19 cruises. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Sherri Mesick and son-in-law Glenn of Salem, two grandchildren Kevin of Salem, and Heather Gressly and her husband Donald of Uncasville, three great grandchildren Madison, Dylan, and Chloe, her sister Audrey Chew and nephew Gregory of Tampa, FL. She leaves a special person Beth Woody Taylor who had been like a daughter to her. She was predeceased by her sister Doris Parkhurst Greene and nephew Harold Greene. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the Voluntown Baptist Church in Voluntown.
