Samuel Reid Crute

Samuel Reid Crute November 14, 1940 - November 3, 2013 Griswold - Samuel Reid Crute, 72, of Griswold, passed away Sunday evening at the Bridebrook Health and Rehabilitation Center in Niantic. He was born November 14, 1940, a son to the late Leslie and Bertha (Salisbury) Crute. Samuel was married to Sandra (Brisson) Crute who predeceased him. Samuel was a communications officer serving within the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He honorably served his country and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a past Post Commander of the VFW Post 2212 in Taftville. He also served his community as a Connecticut State Police Auxillary Trooper. Samuel worked at Federal Paperboard for over 37 years before retiring at age 62. After retiring he then went on to work for the Mohegan Sun Casino as a security officer where he was presently employed. Samuel is survived by his children Daniel Crute his "best bud" and wife Beth of Moosup, Michelle Hayes and husband William of Norwich, David Crute of Norwich; brother Richard Crute and wife Anna of Coventry RI; sister Sharon Crute-Bray and husband Michael of Saratoga, NY; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There will be calling hours on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT with a memorial service immediately following. There will be a private graveside service, with military honors, held at the Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT. The family would like to publically thank Bridebrook Health and Rehabilitation Center and the W.W. Backus Hospital for the attentive and wonderful care that he received.
