Edgar J. Pagé Obituary
Edgar J. Pagé 1919 - 2013 Thompson - Edgar J. Pagé, 93, of Cournoyer Rd, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He is the loving husband of 68 years to Eleanor (Cournoyer) Pagé. Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Eugene Pagé and Marion (Durand) Pagé Desautels. In addition to Edgar's wife, he is survived by his son Marc R. Pagé of Norwich, his daughter Denise Olsen of Thompson, three grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. Edgar was a member of the Putnam High School class of 1937. He also attended the last graduating class of Marianapolis College of 1943, earning his bachelors and master's degree. Edgar furthered his education later earning his Doctorate in Polymer Chemistry from Boston College. Dr. Pagé was the Vice President of Research and Development and Chief Chemist for Belding Hemingway Corticelli, retiring after 50 years of service. His many accomplishments include research resulting in the development of Dacron polyester. Dr. Pagé served in a leadership capacity to various organizations including the American Chemical Society, American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorists, and the Association for Scientific Testing Methods. Dr. Pagé was Past Grand Knights of Cargill Council 64 and a member of Rt. Msgr. Jean C. Mathieu Fourth Degree Assembly 114, Knights of Columbus. He was the first Putnam Boy Scout to earn his Eagle Scout badge, charter member of the Woodstock Lions Club, Woodstock Historical Society, Putnam Elks Club and a member of the Woodstock Theft Detecting Society. Edgar enjoyed nature and mountain climbing with his wife in New Hampshire where they owned a chalet. Edgar also enjoyed music and played the flute and piccolo in many local bands including the St. Mary's Band, Killingly Concert Band, East Woodstock Coronet Jubilee Band, and the New London Symphony Orchestra. He had a beautiful voice and sang at St. Mary Church in Putnam and Most Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret where he was the choir conductor. He will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Edgar's family from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, September 2, 2013, in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin on Tuesday September 3, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Rd., Pomfret. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial donations in Edgar's memory may be made to either The Marion Fathers, 26 Chase Rd.
