John R. Cone Obituary
John R. Cone Oct. 24, 1928 - Jun. 20, 2014 CANTERBURY - John R. Cone, age 85, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Canterbury, CT, a son to the late John Henry and Etta May (Moffitt) Cone. John is survived by his wife Gladys V. (Baker) Cone. They were married on Nov. 8, 1958. John served his country honorably within the United States Army and worked for over 38 years as a machine operator for the Domino Sugar Corporation retiring in 1994. During his employment he served as President for both the Workers Union and Credit Union. He was a member of the Sprague Rod and Gun Club and a lifetime honorary member of the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, hunting, motorcycles, animals of any kind, and watching NASCAR and the Red Sox. In addition to his wife Gladys, he is survived by his daughters Kathleen Cone and her partner John Theroux, Laurie Suntheimer and husband Tom, Karen Rodas and husband Jeff, Dawn Cone and partner Robert Anderson, Allison Cone and Heidi Howard; a sister Mary Macomber; grandchildren Brandon Rodas, Danielle Ralston, Tina Suntheimer, Ethan and Abigail Howard; great grandchildren Jack Topping, Olive Ralston and numerous nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his daughter Lisa Cone; brothers Kenneth and Reginald Cone; sisters Shirley Nicolosi and Thelma Barber and son-in law Robert Howard Jr. There will be calling hours from 5-7 P.M. on Monday at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home located at 490 Voluntown Road in Jewett City. Interment at Carey Cemetery in Canterbury will be private. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in John's honor to Center for Hospice Care Southeastern CT 227 Dunham Street Norwich, CT 06360.
