Kenneth R. Sheldon, Sr. December 31, 1943 - June 28, 2013 Plainfield - Kenneth R. Sheldon, Sr., 69, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013, to be with those who paved the way for him. He fought a valiant fight with cancer but lost the battle. At his passing, Ken was surrounded by all that loved him. Ken was born on December 31, 1943, son of the late Donald Sheldon of Pawcatuck and Mary Andrews (Sheldon) Dirobbio of Westerly/Plainfield. He spent his early years in the Hinkley Hill section of Pawcatuck, later moved to Moosup, and lastly to Jewett City where he would meet his future wife. On May 1, 1965 in St. Mary's Church, Jewett City, Ken married the former Dora (Dusty) LaRose of Lisbon. Mrs. Sheldon, his wife of 48 years, survives him. Throughout his life, Ken was employed at Triangle Wire & Cable, Lisbon Textile, and finally, Wal-Mart, Lisbon. He enjoyed old time NASCAR racing, dirt track racing, gardening, and just puttering in his garage. In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth Sheldon, Jr. and his wife, Holly of Plainfield; four grandchildren, Christopher, Ariel, Skyler, and Bailey; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Sheldon and spouse, Priscilla of Preston and Dennis Sheldon of Pawcatuck. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as his "adopted" family: Peter, Jocelyn, and Brooklyn Wildenhain and Kim Hyman whom he loved as much as his own family. In addition to his father, Ken was predeceased by his stepfather, Ralph Dirobbio, Sr.; stepmother, Dorothy Sheldon; his friend and father-in-law, Roger LaRose, Sr.; and maternal and paternal grandparents. Per his request, arrangements are private and entrusted to Leffler Funeral Home, Jewett City.
