Mary Elizabeth Seefelt Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Seefelt September 22, 1919 - September 16, 2013 Brooklyn - Mary Elizabeth (Collins) Seefelt passed away Monday at Apple Rehab in Middletown. Mary, the daughter of the late Paul and Devere Collins was born September 22, 1919 in Pennsylvania. Her husband Herbert whom she wed in 1943 predeceased her. She has resided in Delaware, W.Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri and most recently, Connecticut. Educated in Pennsylvania, Mary served as editor-in-chief of the high school newspaper and was active in the journalism class, writing news stories, features and editorials. While attending the California University of Pennsylvania, she was chosen to be in Who's Who in Colleges and Universities. Graduating in 1942, she was recognized as the first female to head Dad's Day in the history of the college. Mary was a member of Elizabeth Bower Chapter 437 Eastern Star of Pennsylvania, Windham County Retired Teachers, and lifetime member of the Connecticut Teachers' Association. Mary taught in the Killingly School System for 20 years. Mary derived much pleasure from her animal friends. She also enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad. Her past-times included reading and playing bridge. She especially enjoyed her monthly luncheons and Friday night dinners with family and neighbors. Her son Gary Seefelt and his wife Beth survive her. An infant daughter Linda also predeceased her. Calling hours will be held at Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson on Thursday from 5-7 P.M. Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery in Dawson, Pennsylvania.
