Philip D. Guiney May 3, 1932 - October 12, 2012 GROTON - Philip D. Guiney, 80, of 102 Jupiter Point Road, Groton died peacefully at home on Friday October 12 where he had been cared for by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Sweeney Perka Guiney. Phil was born May 3, 1932, in Biddeford, ME, the son of Jeremiah and Helena Callan Guiney, the oldest of five children. He graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland, ME and from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1954. He worked at Electric Boat in Groton as an engineering specialist retiring in 1994 after 27 years. Phil and Patricia had lived in Norwich where they raised their five boys before retiring to Groton. He enjoyed being a furniture maker and wood carver and also enjoyed boating, golf and traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife Patricia he is survived by five sons; Philip Daniel Guiney, Jr. and his wife Robin of Waterford, Patrick Guiney of Forrestville, CA, Stephen Guiney and his wife Jess of Groton, Jeffrey Perka of Norwich, and Kevin Guiney and his wife Shannon of Arlington, MA., siblings; Nancy Grant of Portland, ME, Peggy Morrison of Saco, ME, and Kate Warner of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, ten Grandchildren and his sister-in-law Sheila Guiney of Goodwin Mills, ME. He was pre-deceased by a brother; Jeremiah Guiney. Calling hours will be held at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home , 310 Thames St., Groton on Friday evening from 4 - 6 PM. Private burial will be at St. Josephs Cemetery, Norwich.
