Shirley E. Jacobsen Died - October 2, 2012 Preston - Shirley E. Jacobsen age 85 of 32 Ricky Lane, Preston peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, October 2, 2012 at the W. W. Backus Hospital in Norwich in the presence of her family. She reunited with her husband Bill whom she missed dearly every day. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 3, 1927 the daughter of Isak and Kathinka Thomsen Isaksen. Shirley married William H. Jacobsen on February 23, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. William passed away April 22, 2010. Shirley was a member of the Navy Wives Club and the Submarine Officers Wives Club. Lee was a wonderful Navy wife supporting and traveling the world with Bill and their children. So many wonderful adventures they shared, now they share their final adventure together. Shirley had her love of flowers, birds, her yard, family and her "silly catalog stuff." Thanks Mom!! She is survived by a son, William H. Jacobsen Jr and Rosanna of St. Augustine, FL, two daughters, Lee Ellen Kersteter and Joel of Gales Ferry and Gail Thompson and Mark of Canterbury, two sisters, Evelyn Prinzo of Albuquerque, NM and Sonja Johnsen of Lindhurst, NJ, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment will be in Preston City Cemetery, Preston. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5 until 7 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be directed to the Nurses Fund, Fairview, 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT 06340.
