Felix Cosmo "Phil" DeNicolo Obituary
Felix "Phil" Cosmo DeNicolo Sept. 3, 1919 - Feb. 27, 2014 NORWICH - Felix "Phil" Cosmo DeNicolo, age 94, of Norwich, beloved husband of 60 years of Mary Caulfield DeNicolo, died peacefully February 27, 2014 at William W. Backus Hospital with his family by his side. Phil was born in Norwich on September 3, 1919, the son of the late Raffaele and Maria (Tempesta) DeNicolo. Phil graduated from Putnam Technical School after which he worked various jobs to support his family and took classes at Mitchell College and Teachers College where he received his degree in Education. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 as a machinist mate aboard a ship in the Pacific theater. Phil was a long time educator and coach at the Norwich Regional Technical School (NRTS) where he served as Department Head for the Machine Tool and Die Department. His program of study later became the template for a state wide curriculum for machine tool instruction. During his 35 year career at NRTS, many of his students went on to successful careers at General Dynamics, United Nuclear and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. While at NRTS, Phil also coached golf, baseball and basketball and was the Athletic Advisor. Phil loved sports and enjoyed swimming, diving, basketball, baseball and golf while growing up. His passion was golf and he was both a student of the game and a highly skilled player achieving a 4 handicap at the height of his playing career. He was a lifelong member of the Norwich Golf Club and Pautipaug Country Club where he taught his children and many others to play. He was also an avid UConn sports fan and loved watching both the men's and women's basketball teams. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his children Philip and his wife Denise of Spring Branch,TX, Marie Ladd and her husband Tim of Mattapoisett, MA, Joan Antisdale and her husband Kevin of Fairfield, David of Rowayton, and Paul and his wife Misti of Cincinnati, OH; nine grand children, Connor, Ryan and Evan Antisdale, Ellen and Eric Faulise, and William, Gianna and Francesca DeNicolo, and Angel Gonzalez. Phil was predeceased by his brothers Dominic, Ralph and Frank DeNicolo, sisters Antoinette DeNicolo, Mary D'Elia and Nicolletta Ruffo, and son in law Michael Faulise. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on Elizabeth St. in Norwich at 11A.M. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
