Mary C. Chrabaszcz May 7, 1919 - Mar. 26, 2014 MANSFIELD - Mary C. Chrabaszcz, 94, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Douglas Manor with her family by her side. She was born on May 7, 1919 to Frank and Magdalena (Stojda) Szarkowicz in East Greenwich, R.I. On October 6,1945 she married her husband Albin Chrabaszcz. He predeceased her on February 23, 1976. She graduated from Killingly High School and worked in textile mills following graduation. In 1951, the family moved to Mansfield. Mary worked for many years as a food service worker at UConn, retiring in 1984. The students in the dorm called her their Mom away from home. Her hobbies included baking, cooking, sewing, reading, and especially gardening. Everyone always admired her colorful zinnias. She was a member of Echo Grange, Chaplin Senior Center, and a volunteer at the Immaculata Retreat House. Mary enjoyed her friendships with family and friends especially her two great granddaughters. She was a good friend to all and will be greatly missed. Mary was a devout Catholic at St. Joseph Church for sixty-two years. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Todd and son in law Robert, her grandson Ryan Todd and his wife Jessica of Niantic, great granddaughters Lindsay and Maryn Todd, a brother Joseph Szarkowicz of Bristol, a sister in law Dorothy Szarkowicz of Dayville and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three sisters Frances Luczak, Victoria Samborski, Anna Rzeznikiewicz and four brothers John, Frank, Stephen, and Raymond Szarkowicz. The family wishes to express a special thanks to all of the staff at Douglas Manor for their wonderful compassion and care. She considered you as her second family. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday March 28, 2014 between 9:30 and 10:30 A.M. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic prior to her 11:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Memorial donations may be made to Douglas Manor Recreation Dept. 103 North Rd.
