Frederick W. Johnson III Obituary
Frederick W. Johnson III 1953 - 2014 LISBON - Frederick W. Johnson III of Lisbon, passed away at his home with his family by his side following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 2, 1953 in Providence, RI, he was the son of Frederick W. Johnson Jr. and Gwendolyn (Clegg) Johnson, who both predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Claudette (Perkins) Johnson, his son Frederick W. Johnson IV of Griswold, one brother Robert F. Johnson, and his wife Janet, two nieces Kerri and Jillian of Norwich, along with numerous cousins, and his longtime friend Dana Shinault of Lisbon. Fred loved the ocean, and following his discharge from submarine duty in the Navy, he joined the United States Merchant Marines. His travels on various tugboats took him to ports all along the eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida. He spent the majority of his life living in Norwich and Lisbon. He graduated from the Norwich Free Academy class of 1971. Along with his love for pets, he enjoyed buying and restoring classic cars with Dana, his favorite being his yellow 1961 Chevy Corvette. He was a member of the classic car club Dream Machines, and his latest interest that quickly became his passion was drag racing his Angry Bird pro-stock along with Dana at the track in Lebanon Valley, NY. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Visitation will be held on Monday June 16, 2014 from 7-8 P.M. at the Labenski Funeral Home 107 Boswell Avenue Norwich, with a Funeral Service taking place during that time. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations in his name may be made to Kitty Harbor 2263 Glasgo Rd. Jewett City Ct. 06351. Please visit www.labenskifuneralhome.com to leave an online tribute or condolence.
