E. Arthur Barry, Jr. MD Jul. 17, 1919 - Jul. 3, 2014 PLAINFIELD - E. Arthur Barry, Jr. MD, 94, of Moosup, beloved husband of Lorraine (Bouchard) Barry, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon at Colonial Health and Rehab in Plainfield. He was born July 17, 1919, in Plainfield, a son of the late Eugene and Marie (La Fay) Barry and had been a lifelong resident of the community. Dr. Barry graduated from Assumption College and Laval University School of Medicine in Quebec, Canada. He returned to Plainfield and opened his medical practice in 1947. He served as the Windham County Medical Examiner as well as Plainfield's Health Officer. He was the school physician and the High School football team doctor for over 25 years. Dr. Barry was on the staff of Day Kimball Hospital and was also a member of the CT State Medical Society and the AMA. He was a member of the Snake Meadow Club, the Plainfield Lion's club and the K of C, Council #270. He was an avid sportsman and sports fan enjoying hunting, fishing, golfing and watching his beloved Red Sox and New England Patriots . He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, sisters, Dorothy Fournier and Theresa Bazinet ; sons E. Arthur (Kathleen), Michael ( Ann-Marie), Marc (Marlene) and daughter, Michelle; his grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Nicholas, Bethany, Kevin , and great grandchildren, Alina and Clark. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert, sisters, Cecile Dawley, Vivian Chmura, and a grandson, Jason .The family is extremely grateful for the excellent care provided by the entire staff of Colonial Health and Rehab to Dr. Barry over the past five years. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Recreational Activity Fund at Colonial Health and Rehab, 16 Winsor Ave., Plainfield, CT. 06374. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30AM at All Hallows Church in Moosup, CT. Visitation will be at Dougherty Brothers Funeral Home, 595 Norwich Rd., Plainfield, from 8:30AM to 10:00AM. Burial will be private.
