Obituary Condolences

Margaret McGrath September 11, 1927 - May 7, 2009 NORWICH - Margaret McGrath, 81, passed away Thursday at Norwichtown Rehabilitation and Care Center. She was born September 11, 1927 in Manhattan, New York City, NY daughter of the late John and Delia (O'Grady) McGrath. She was predeceased by her brother John Martin McGrath and her brother-in-law Thomas J. Lee. Margaret is survived by her loving sister Bridget T. Lee of Voluntown and nephews, Kevin Lee of Bullhead City, AZ, Thomas M. Lee of Griswold, Denis Lee of West Warwick, RI and nieces Colleen Wilber of Voluntown, Rosemary Kesling of Brooklyn, Mavourneen Costello of Vernon, their spouses and many dearly cherished grand nieces and nephews. Margaret, a graduate of Saint John's University, concluded her thirty-year registered nurse career as Supervisor of Nurses at Queens General Hospital in New York City in 1989. She was passionate about nursing and proud of an award she received for exemplary and compassionate patient care. An avid traveler, Margaret, affectionately known as Peggy, was proud of her Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland many times. Peggy was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Bayside, Long Island where for many years she was a member of the choir. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:15AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Preston City Road, Voluntown. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Griswold. The Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road, Rte 138, Jewett City is in charge of arrangements.
