Bernard V. Chartier March 6, 1920 - February 4, 2011 DAYVILLE - Bernard V. Chartier, 90, of Dayville, died Friday at home. He was born in Brooklyn on March 6, 1920, son of the late Victorien and Adelaide (Bernier) Chartier. He was the husband of the late Irene (Touchette) Chartier. They were married on May 5, 1947. She died November 2, 2009. Mr. Chartier served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a Tool and Die Maker and worked at American Optical in Putnam for many years. He was a communicant of both St. Ignatius Church in Rogers and St. Joseph Church in Dayville. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States. He is survived by his children, Madalene N. Carilli and husband Michael of Norwich, Bernard M. Chartier of Battleground, WA, Lawrence A. Chartier and wife Dr. Carleen Chartier of Evergreen, CO and Timothy J. Chartier and wife Marsha of Nottingham, NH, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 9:30 -10:30 A.M. in Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Church, Dayville. Burial will be in the spring in South Cemetery, Pomfret.
