Raymond John Tortorigi Obituary
Raymond John Tortorigi January 30, 1939 - October 30, 2012 Preston - Raymond John Tortorigi age 73, of Preston, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2012 at the Chest Elm Rehabilitation Center in Moodus. He was born in Manchester on January 30, 1939. He was raised in Plainville and in 1952 was the youngest Boy Scout in CT to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Plainville High School in 1956 Ray enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country for 20 years in the submarine service. In 2007, he was inducted into the Holland Club, and exclusive group within the SUBVETS organization that recognizes members who reach the milestone of a minimum of 50 years qualified in submarines. Ray also volunteered his time as a Nautilus Museum docent. Ray had a big heart and could always be counted on to help a friend in need. He belonged to a Trivial Pursuit Group for more than 20 years and was well known for his sense of humor. After retirement Ray became a General Contractor and was the CEO of RJT Builders, LLC. He enjoyed golfing as a member of the Pautipaug Country Club and spent quite a few winters golfing at the Navy Marine Golf Course in Honolulu, HI. When he wasn't golfing or building homes he could be found playing Texas Holdem at Foxwoods. Ray is survived by his wife, Patricia Reid, his daughter, Elayne Pons and husband Daniel of Gales Ferry, a son John Tortorigi and his wife Sheila of Colchester, his daughter SGM Amanda Baldwin and her husband MAJ Tripp Baldwin of Fort Belvoir, VA, a stepson, Kevin Reid and his wife Leah a stepdaughter Nancy Carr and her husband Michael as well as eight grandchildren. A burial at sea will be held at 11 o'clock on November 17 at the Historic Ship Nautilus, 1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton.
