Mildred Hazel Dodge Opperman July 6, 1911 - November 11, 2012 CENTRAL VILLAGE - Hazel Opperman, 101, formerly of School St. in Central Village, died Sunday at the Village Manor in Plainfield. Born in Plainfield, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Susan (Lathrop) Dodge. Hazel attended Plainfield High School and Norwich Commercial School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Royal Robes in Moosup, Pratt & Whitney in Hartford and Duplex Durham in Mystic. In later years, she worked for H & R Block in Jewett City. On June 12, 1941, Hazel married Ernest Opperman. He predeceased her on October 23, 1993. She was also predeceased by three brothers: George, Olney and Harold Dodge. Hazel was a member of the Central Village Congregational Church and a lifelong member of the Grange. She is survived by her children, Walter and Debbie Opperman of Killingly, Martha Bitgood of Central Village and Susan Davis of Virginia. She also leaves her grandchildren: Christopher Bitgood, Walter Opperman Jr., Jill Opperman, Daniel Davis, Sarah Beauregard and great granddaughter Chelsea Opperman and great grandson Elliot Beauregard, as well as nephews: Sandy Dodge, Charles Dodge, Paul Dodge and nieces Linda Veit, Kathryn Dodge and Judy Dodge. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. in Central Village Congregational Church, Central Village. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A calling hour will be held at the church on Friday from 10-11 A.M. Memorial donations to the Village Manor Recreation Dept., 16 Windsor Avenue, Plainfield, CT 06374. Tillinghast Funeral Home, 25 Main Street, Central Village is in charge of arrangements.
