Robert J. Perras, Sr. August 26, 1926 - February 21, 2013 Norwich - Robert J. Perras, Sr. age 86 a World War II Army Veteran, husband of Mary (Bonomi) Perras of 2 Garden St. died peacefully Thursday, February 21st, with his family by his side at the WW Backus Hospital in Norwich. He was born in Putnam, August 26, 1926, son of the late Julius and Kathleen (Foley) Perras. Bob was employed at the Norwich Hospital for 32 years retiring in 1981. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard at United Nuclear and Underwater Sound Lab. While in the service, Bob served with the 192nd Field Artillery Battalion and the 271st Field Artillery in the Philippines and Japan. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was presented with the Asian Pacific Combat Ribbon with two battle stars and good Conduct medal. He was a lifetime member of Willimantic Lodge of Elks #1311 and K of C, White Cross Council 13. He was a member of the Norwich Golf Course for several years and played in the Senior League on Tuesday mornings. Bob was an avid golfer and Yankee fan and enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends and family. He was always happiest spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son and daughter in law, Robert and Joanne Perras of Norwich, a daughter and son in law, Jane and Mike Easterlin of Franklin, three grandchildren, Amy Easterlin, and Christopher and Matthew Perras. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, a sister in law and brother in law, Adeline and Michael Kutia of Norwich. He was predeceased by a sister Virginia Deslongchamp and brother Richard Perras. Bob was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church in Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 25th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church in Norwich, meeting directly at church. Interment will be on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 3 P.M. at St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors. Calling hours will be on Sunday, February 24th from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Cummings-Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff St. Norwich, CT.
