Jane Danielson Obituary

Jane Alton Danielson Died - October 21, 2013 Putnam - Jane Alton Danielson passed away peacefully October 21 in the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. She was 91 years of age. Ms. Danielson was born in Hartford but spent her summers in East Woodstock, to which she moved permanently at age eight. The daughter of Flora and Carl Danielson, a school teacher and carpenter-cum-store keeper, respectively, she was pre-deceased by James, her younger brother. A graduate of Woodstock Academy, Ms. Danielson trained at a lab school in Boston before returning to Woodstock to work with Dr. David Bates. With seemingly limitless energy, she ran the office with a high degree of professionalism and compassion, admixed with spirited debates over politics. When Dr. Bates retired, Ms. Danielson served in the offices of the Woodstock Medical Group until her retirement at age 80. Ms. Danielson leaves behind numerous cousins in the Gifford, Child, and Morse families, as well as the Bates family, of which she was effectively a member. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 1:00 p.m. at the East Woodstock Congregational Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jane's memory may be given to the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, P.O. Box 156, East Woodstock, CT 06244; or the Muddy Brook Fire Department, P.O. Box 222, East Woodstock, CT 06244-0222.To share a memory with her family "Light a Candle" at www.smithandwalkerfh.com

If Jane Danielson loved you, then you know the meaning of the expression, "She had your back." There seemed to be no limit to what she would do for the people she loved. Jane had a vast circle of friends, but that's not even close to a proper description. Her friends were more like a vast extended family. She was that deeply intertwined with so many people's lives, and she made each of us feel like we were the center of her universe. What an amazing soul. What a glorious way to live.

I remember Jane as a true friend that I have met at Woodstock Medical. A true friend that had always welcome me with open arms. Jane had touched my life many times with tears and laughter. The dinners Silvia and I went to at her home have special memories.

Aunt Jane as we knew her. I will miss her. The countless dinners with her and my parents as a child were always a historical walk thru the people and events that shaped Woodstock.

Jane, a wonderful lady who seemed to know everyone. She asked the three of us to dinner every Sunday that Dr. Rudy was off duty, despite caring for her paralyzed mother...Damask tablecloth and shining silver...she couldn't entertain any other way.

I remember her as the first face I saw if I ever had to go to see Dr Bates. She was no non-sense, but friendly and reassuring. What a wonderful legacy of service she leaves behind. Imagine the countless lives she touched in her work and life. She will definitely be missed.
