Thomas Joseph Cartwright September 8, 1954 - November 1, 2013 Griswold - Thomas Joseph Cartwright, age 59, of Griswold passed away on Friday November 1, 2013 at the Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born September 8, 1954 in Yonkers, NY, a son to the late Joseph and Alice (Diggins) Cartwright. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Holmes) Cartwright. Thomas served honorably in the United States Coast Guard retiring after 20 years of service. He continued to serve his community as a Judicial Marshall for the State of Connecticut and recently retired. Thomas was also a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Jewett City. In addition to his military and professional careers he enjoyed a wonderful life with his friends and family, being known to everyone as having witty charm and personality. He loved animals, the NY Yankees and making people laugh. He will be missed by all who love him. In addition to his wife, Thomas is survived by his sons Thomas Cartwright Jr. and wife Nina, Billy Cartwright and wife Donna; brothers Dave and Jerry Cartwright; sisters Maureen Cartwright, Kathy Kiskis, Eileen Lambert; step son Joshua Dow; grandchildren Alexandra, Breona, Angelina, Victoria and Billy Jr. Cartwright; numerous nieces and nephews. There will be calling hours on Friday November 8, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City, CT. Burial will be private, within a family cemetery in New York State, with military honors. Donations can be made to Angels Among Us Animal Rescue or Homes For Our Troops.
