John L. Marcheterre Sr. May 25, 1922 - Jun. 22, 2014 DANIELSON - John L. Marcheterre Sr., age 92, died at his home on June 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Berlin, MA on May 25, 1922, son of Hector G. Marcheterre and Elizabeth (Domingue) Marcheterre. Mr. Marcheterre was a United States Army Veteran during World War II, having earned the rank of Staff Sergeant of Company E, 397th Infantry Regiment and was honorably discharged from the Army on January 18, 1946, having earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Badge GO 260 100th Infantry Division 1945. He also received the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He then joined the Connecticut State Guard with a rank of Sergeant, E5 and was discharged as 2nd LT on June 5, 1951. Over the years, John was employed by Kingswood Farms, Powdrell & Alexander, and Despathy's Furniture Store of Danielson and Moosup for many years. He was also employed by Pervel MFG, and then United Nuclear for 10 years. His final employment was with John Knox Village in Florida. Upon his retirement, he moved to Orange City, Florida where he and his wife Eleanor spent many happy years and made lifetime friends. John was married to the love of his life, the late Eleanor C. (Bromley) Marcheterre, for 72 years, who predeceased him in February 2014. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Dauphinais and son-in-law, J. Henry Dauphinais, of Danielson; his son Gerald R. Marcheterre and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Marcheterre of Danielson; and his son, Michael J. Marcheterre and daughter-in-law, Tracie Marcheterre, of Brooklyn. He was predeceased by his son, John Marcheterre, Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Karen M. Dauphinais of Meriden; Mark J. Dauphinais and his wife, Jennifer; Craig A. Dauphinais and fiancé, Karen Houle, of Danielson; Allen Marcheterre and his wife, Kelly, of Dayville; Marie Marcheterre, of Plainfield; Scott J. Marcheterre and his wife Nikki, of Brooklyn; Sandra D. Marcheterre Rukstela and her husband Thomas Rukstela of Brooklyn; Jonathan Marcheterre, Matthew Marcheterre and Michael Marcheterre. John is also survived by his great grandchildren, Danielle Dauphinais, Braeden Dauphinais, Evan Dauphinais, Alec Marcheterre, Jordan Rukstela and Liliana Moran. John was one of 10 children and was predeceased by his brothers Robert Marcheterre, Norman Marcheterre, Albert Marcheterre, and Charles Marcheterre, his sister, Rita Saia, and infant sister, Marilyn Marcheterre. He is survived by his brother, Paul Marcheterre and his sisters, Pauline Ordway and Dorothy Amberg, a special niece, Heidi Amberg, and several nieces and nephews. John will be truly missed by all of his family and longtime best friend, Shirley Main, and many other special relatives and friends. He will be remembered for being a hard worker, and especially for his generosity, kindness and grace and how he treasured the time he spent with his loved ones. Special thanks go out to the nurses and medical staff at Day Kimball Hospital and to the staff of Westview for the compassion and wonderful care he received during his recent stays. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Danielson, for many years. A funeral will be held at The Cornerstone Baptist Church at 247 Broad Street, Danielson, CT to honor John on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Westfield Cemetery on North Street, Danielson.
