Larry Robert Ochs

Larry Robert (Rob) Ochs DIED - Feb. 25, 2015 NORWICH - Larry Robert (Rob) Ochs at age 73 passed away on February 25th 2015. Rob graduated from Ohio State University with a BS in Science Education. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, serving over 20 years in the Supply Corp, retiring from the naval reserve unit as a Commander. Rob had a passion for science, he taught at the Norwich Free Academy (NFA) for 30 years including astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. In the early 70s while teaching at NFA Rob was the swim team coach, and instructor the NFA student-run television station. In 1985 Rob started the NFA astronomy program. Rob was one of the first K-12 teaches in the U.S. to be named to the education outreach team of the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in 1989. From the year 2004-2011 rob was the web master for the Cathedral of Saint Patrick Cathedral School. Rob is survived by his dog Comet, loving friends, colleagues and former students who are indebted to Rob's commitment to service, education and faith. In Rob's remembrance, his services will be held March 5th 2015 at 5 P.M. at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT. 06360.
