Steven Frink Obituary

Steven Frink Oct. 8, 1969 - Jul. 31, 2015 Jewett City - Steven Frink, 45, of Jewett City died unexpectedly at his home on Friday July 31, 2015. Born October 8, 1969 in Norwich, CT, he was the beloved son of Gary and Linda (LaCroix) Frink. Steve was simply known to everyone as "CRITTER." His close friends called him the "Big Man." Critter was a true friend and genuine man to all. He had a heart of gold. His calm demeanor, simple laugh and sudden gestures will not be forgotten. He will be sorely missed by family, co-workers and friends. He worked at Griswold Public Schools for almost 30 years. He was hired in 1986 working part-time after school and never left. After graduating high school in 1988, he was promoted to full time and worked his way up to Head Custodian at GHS. He was a jack of all trades and took pride in his work. When it came to major projects at the school, it was important to him that the job was done right! He spent many summers getting the school ready for a new year. Administrators, Teachers and other employees appreciated his work. One of his favorite parts of the school was the Griswold Child Development Center. He would visit quite frequently and check in on the "kids." They liked his company and called him "Mr. C." In his neighborhood, you would see him on his riding tractor mowing his lawn, his aunt's lawn and the Jewett City Firehouse grounds. He spent many days working on house projects inside and out with his parents. From water fountains to flower gardens to remodeling the entire house, together, they did it all. He enjoyed hanging out at Uncle Kranky's in Jewett City. There, he would sit in his favorite spot, watch the NY Giants on "his" TV and visit with friends. Frank and Becky will sorely miss one of their dearest friends. Over the past few years, he really enjoyed fishing on his boat at the ocean and local lakes with friends and co-workers. Like only Critter could, he summed up himself perfectly in his High School yearbook putting a quote that stated: "Not all good things come in small packages…. I'm here aren't I?" In addition to his parents, Linda and Gary, he is survived by his special Auntie Joette, close cousins Chad, Doug and Ashlie LaCroix, Grandmother Doris Frink, Uncles Glenn and Kenn Frink, Cousin Perry Frink, along with several cousins. The Gagne-Piechowski Funeral 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT has been entrusted with private arrangements. There are no calling hours or services. "Critter" IS the "best friend" I've ever had and he always WILL BE! We could talk about anything, share ups and downs, laugh our you-know-whats off -- generally, have good times regardless of circumstances...friends like this are not found often. I am so unhappy to know that the huggable "Big Guy" has made a "Road Trip" without me -- I'll be following along one day -- run interference for me!!

Steve was never one to boast about his abilities, and yet he was incredibly talented. Years ago I asked his advice on how to construct a bean bag toss game for a Holiday Fest fundraiser for the pre-school my children attended. Instead of advice, I got a 5 foot plywood snowman with a top hat, fully painted, with holes just the right size for a small bean bag. I was then surprised to see a 5 foot Christmas tree, also with holes, painted so meticulously that the ornaments had the appearance of reflecting light. At the bottom of the tree - painted onto the plywood - were several gifts from Santa. The tags on the gifts had my children's names on them. As if that weren't enough, there was also a 5 foot Santa ready to greet the children at the door. And then Steve put them all in his truck and drove them out to Lebanon.

If we put together a list of all the kind and generous things Steve had done for others over the years, it would probably only be matched in size by our sadness at losing him so soon and so suddenly. If one man can perform so many acts of kindness, surely we, too, can find the time to do a few now and then, if only to keep the memory of him alive.

Steve, it was a pleasure knowing you. No one can ever take your place.
