Leslie Sayles

Leslie Sayles, 66, of Kearney, died Feb. 18, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Leslie Otis Sayles was born March 2, 1946, in Lincoln, to Russell and Goldie (Ericson) Sayles. He grew up in North Platte and was a 1964 graduate of the North Platte High School. Leslie continued his education at the North Platte Community College, and later at Kearney State College, where he graduated in 1968. He also attended the Hawamba Community College. He entered into the U.S. Army on Sept. 15, 1970, and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharge on April 23, 1972.
Leslie was employed as a Respiratory Therapist and a Respiratory Therapist Instructor at the NEMS Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss., as well as in Albuquerque, N.M., at the PIMA and NM Presbyterian Hospital. Leslie was a member of the Non-Denominational Church, NRRC, Albuquerque Chapter of the Barbershopper Harmony Society, Kearney Area Barbershoppers Chorus No. 1733 and the American Legion.
Leslie was preceded in death by his father, Russell Sayles.
Survivors include his daughters, Maegen(Corey)Settlemires, of Pensacola, Fla., and Mariki Sayles of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Parker Settlemires, Paityn Settlemires and Paisley Settlemires, all of Pensacola, Fla.; his mother, Goldie Sayles, of Kearney; his brothers, Steve (Nancy) Sayles, of Kearney; his nephew, Harlan Sayles, of Omaha, and Josh (Belinda) Sayles, of Kearney; two great nieces; and one great nephew.

Services are at 10:30 a.m., today, at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Stanley Morrison and the Rev. Leslie Poutney officiating. Interment will follow at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team and the North Platte American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
