Jonah Harry Rowbotham BERMAN

BERMAN, Jonah Harry Rowbotham June 22, 1994 - September 1, 2013 Jonah Berman, beloved son of Victoria Rowbotham and Neil Berman, cherished brother of Sacha, passed away at home in Lions Bay on September 1, 2013. He was born in Ottawa and lived in Chelsea, Quebec until 2005 when the family moved to Lions Bay. He attended Chelsea Elementary School, Gleneagles Elementary School and Rockridge Secondary School. Jonah was a keen musician and a gifted guitarist with a passion for the great classic rock and roll artists of the '60s and '70s. A talented sketch artist, his best work was often discovered on the pages of his high school text books. Known for his quick wit and goofy sense of humour, he lit up the room and brought laughter to all who knew him. Jonah was a demon downhill and freestyle skier. He enjoyed many outdoor family holidays - hiking, kayaking, surfing and biking with the highlight always being the bonfire and s'mores at the end of the day while gazing at the night sky. He was a good and loyal friend to so many. Jonah was gentle and affectionate with his friends and family, especially his cat, Marley. Jonah had a global network of friends and family extending from South Africa to Ottawa/Chelsea to the west coast. He is also survived by his aunt Patricia Rowbotham of Calgary and his aunt and uncle Elizabeth Rowbotham and Thomas Funk of Littleton, Colorado; his grandmother, Jacqui Berman and aunt Lara Berman of Cape Town, South Africa; uncle and aunt Michael and Karin Berman of Nanaimo, BC; cousins Charlotte, Anne, Michael, Kevin, Kristen, Jenna, Joshua, Devon and Jann and closest family friends Marcus and Birgitta von Krosigk and children Niklas and Sylvie. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Harry Rowbotham and Mervyn Berman, and his uncle, Douglas Stokes. Jonah was loved deeply and will be dearly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jonah's memory to the BC Children's Hospital: Provincial Youth Concurrent Disorders Program.
