Maureen E. Kostner(1932 - 2013)

On July 20, 2013 our world came to a standstill. Our Dad lost his wife after 58 years of marriage & we lost our Mother (Ernie/Debbie), Mother in Law (Ling/Brad), & Grandmother (Kelsey, Wesley, Tyler, Emerson, Carson).

Maureen Elizabeth Kostner (Scott) passed away at St. Paul`s Hospital, in Vancouver, B.C.. Maureen was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1932 to John & Winnifred Scott, she was 1 of 10 children. After marrying Ernest Kostner in 1955, and having their 2 children, Ernest Jr. & Deborah, they settled in Beaconsfield, Quebec. Then, in 1964, after accepting a transfer from IBM, our little family moved to West Vancouver. With many relatives from back East, always in her heart, Maureen began a new and much different life. Humbly speaking, she took care of us, all 3 of us, always putting our health & wellbeing first, with undeniable strength and selfless love.

Once the children grew older, she wanted to take on a new challenge. She worked for The Dept. of Fisheries & Oceans, & in 1987, excelled to a level where she was sent to Ottawa, to accept a Merit Award for "an exceptional & distinguished contribution to the effectiveness & efficiency of the Public Service". Then came weddings, & her beloved grandchildren. She retired and made new friends knitting and sewing for St. Anthony's Craft Group, WV Senior's Center and The Sisters of Charity. Unfortunately, in 2006, she suffered a heart attack, & spent over 4 months at St. Paul`s Hospital. Finally, she was able to return to her family home, where we could care for her and accompany her to St. Paul's 3 days a week for her dialysis treatments. We could not be more grateful for these years and every precious hour that we had together. She was our definition of perfection, and we will love her forever!!!

Special thanks to Dr. John Corey, Dr. Linda De Luca, and all the employees at St. Paul`s. Also, many thanks to our dialysis friends, whom we have shared joy & sorrow over the past 7 years. Please send any donations to St Paul's Hospital Foundation or St. Paul's Hemo Dialysis Unit.

Private Celebration of Life to be held in August.
