IMMELMAN, Douglas Alexander September 9, 1918 - August 7, 2013 Doug passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2013, at home with family and caregivers at his side. He is survived and remembered with much love by his daughter, Margie, son, Doug (Junior), son in law Mike Smith and grandchildren, Alexandra and Michael. Doug came to live with his daughter and son in law in Vancouver in July 2003, after the passing of his wife Lydia. They had been married for 53 years, both having been in South Africa where they spent their life together. Doug was a mining engineer. He worked in a number of different mining communities during his career including the town of Allanridge, where in addition to being the manager of the gold mine, he was the mayor. When he was promoted to head office, his family moved to Johannesburg. While in Vancouver, Doug continued to pursue his interests, which included exercising daily, reading, pursuing spirituality and spending time with his family and friends. He was an inspiration to us all. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 11:30 am at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Ave, in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
