JOHNSTONE, Margaret Stewart (nee Mitchell) January 18,1919 - April 6, 2014 Margaret and husband Ed owned and operated "Buy Rite Market" the first ever "supermarket" in Vancouver. In later years "Mrs. J" served the YMCA as a board member, office manager and as surrogate Mom to many of the North Shore Y kids and staff. In her retirement Margaret went onto selling winning lottery tickets at Park Royal, as well as volunteering at the West Van United Church and office. There, Margaret would proof flyers and transcripts for spelling errors. She could spot a misspelled word "a mile away"! Margaret will be missed by her two sons Gary (Janice), Bruce (Cathy) and daughter-in-law Maureen. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren Linda (Bryan), Shelly (Bryan), Jamie (Serena), Adam, Courtney, Liam, as well as 3 great-grandchildren Justin, Marisa and Emma. Predeceased by husband Ed in 1972 and son Ralph in 2005, Margaret was the last of "the old guard" of the Mitchell and Johnstone clans. "Hoist a wee dram" for Mrs. J has "left the building". She will be missed! If you would like, join us in wearing a "dash" of purple Margaret's favorite colour, on Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. at the West Van United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Ave. West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers. Margaret supported, the Heart and Stroke foundation, Lions Gate Hospital, and West Van United Church caring ministry.
