LESINSKI, Ryszard "Richard" Jozef . Richard's family announces, with sadness, his passing on November 18, 2013, after a three month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumour. Born in Lowicz, Poland, on March 19, 1948, he defected to Germany from where he immigrated to Canada in 1983 (despite his mother being a member of the Polish Communist Parliament) and settled on the North Shore. He continued to pursue his love of freedom and nature throughout his life, and reveled in the natural beauty of British Columbia and his home in Lions Bay. He truly loved his newly chosen country. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, swimming, exploring the wilderness, reading and above all fishing at Big Bar Lake. He trained as a mechanical engineer, and particularly enjoyed his last job at Bentall-Kennedy downtown. He is survived by his wife Halina, his daughter Ewa (Tim), grandchildren Sophia, Stephanie, Elanor, Juliet, his sister Bozenna and nephew Adam. We would like to thank friends, family, neighbours, Msgr. Smith, and colleagues from the Bentall-Kennedy Evergreen Building for their support in this difficult time. In particular, we want to thank his university dorm mate and long-time friend Marek Wasiak, who came from Toronto to spend 6 weeks with him during his illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Ryan Janicki, Dr. Anis Lakha and the staff of Lions Gate Hospital for their outstanding care. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the Redeemer Parish in West Vancouver on Wednesday Nov. 27, at 7:00 PM, with prayers at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada for GBM research would be much appreciated. Kearney Funeral Services 604-736-0268
