BAYER - Captain William May 06, 1922 - October 10, 2013 William passed away peacefully at his home in North Vancouver at the age of 91 years. Bill spent his early youth in Kitscoty Alberta, moving to Quadra Island with his family where he grew up. Bill worked on the coastal tugboats receiving his Captains Certificate, married the love of his life, Gladys, and moved his family to Vancouver in 1954. Bill's extensive knowledge of the coast led to his career as a BC Coast Pilot. Upon his retirement Bill moved to Langley and began another career with his wife, opening a unique home based Nursery. Bill will be remembered for all of his wonderful sea stories of life on the BC Coast and the beautiful gardens he created in Langley and especially for all of the fantastic fruit and vegetables he gave away to all of his friends and family from his garden. Bill is survived by his son Leslie, grandson William and great grandsons Thomas and John, brother Robert, and sisters Amber, Eve, and Joan, and his many nieces and nephews. There will be no service held at Bill's request. Flowers gratefully declined however friends so wishing may send donations to the Lions Gate Hospital, or Vancouver Costal Health, in Bill's name.
