LUCAS - Ronald Fairfax, on December 1, 2012, in his 97th year, at Kiwanis Care Centre, North Vancouver.

Predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1998, he is survived by his two daughters, Jane Lucas (Kjell) and Anne Campbell (Ross), his two grandchildren Jessica Campbell John (Kevin) and Shawn Lucas Campbell (Lacee), and five great grandchildren, Nina John, and Landon, Micah, Sam, and Anaiah Campbell.

He was born in Edmonton in 1916 and moved to Vancouver about 1926. As a teenager in 1933 he and some friends built a cabin at Hollyburn. In WWII Ron served in the artillery in the Canadian Army in Canada, England, and the European continent. After the war he resumed his career in education with positions of teacher, vice principal, principal, and then District Superintendent, taking the family to small towns all over BC.

In 1977 he retired and moved with Pat to the Seastrand in West Vancouver, where they embarked on 20 years of worldwide travel, as well as spending time and working on the family cabin in Paradise Valley. Both of these dwellings were a revolving door for family, friends, and strangers, all of whom were inspired by their enthusiasm and energy. Ron had the wonderful characteristic of making everyone feel interesting and important. He will be missed by so many.

Thanks to the dedicated, caring and friendly staff at Kiwanis Care Centre. As Ron said, "They take very good care of you here." Donations, if wished, to the Trans Canada Trail, which Ron and Pat have previously supported and always felt was a good project for Canadians.
