WAKEFIELD - Lilian Gertrude (nee Riley) Born in England in 1922, Lily passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2014, with her beloved and devoted husband by her side. At last she was free of the terrible effects of Alzheimer's disease. With their son (Michael), Michael's wife (Christine), daughter (Barbara), granddaughter (Caroline) and Lily's sister (Eileen), Lily and Reg celebrated 68 years of wonderfully happy marriage in August last. Lily was always a happy person, loved children and they loved her. She wanted to help those less fortunate and she volunteered with Reg at First United Church in Vancouver. Lily loved to sing, had a lovely voice and enjoyed singing with the Lynn Valley United Church choir. When she could no longer read music because of macular degeneration, she sang with a sing-along group at Parkgate Community Centre. Lily made many friends in Canada and left many friends in England when she and Reg immigrated to Canada in 1983 and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Lynn Valley United Church at 3201 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver, on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please know that Lily would have loved that a donation be made to First United Church, Vancouver.
