Gerry was born in Springhill, NS, but came to BC when she was two months old. She graduated from Duke of Connaught High School in New Westminster in 1941 and worked in the office of Hammond Cedar in Hammond BC, before joining the RCAF in 1943. She trained in Ottawa and Montreal then went on active duty as a wireless operator at Eastern Air Command in Halifax, NS. While in Halifax, she met her husband to be, Steve Gatensbury who was in the Navy, and to whom she would be married for 67 years. When the war ended, they returned to New Westminster and married in 1946. From there they made a 20-year trip around BC in the lumber business where Gerry was always game to see what would happen next. Starting at the coast , they went to Terrace, Nelson, Vernon (twice) Golden and back to the coast, then for 24 years had their own business in Langley, BC. Gerry is survived by her husband, and three children, Sue (Bob), Mavis (Dave), and Ross (Dori); 3 grandchildren, Leah and Amy Slacke, Michael Procter, and a great granddaughter, Abigail Proctor. There will be no service, by Gerry's request, but there will be a gathering of family and friends in a while to talk about the good times. Donations may be made to support the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society's Music Therapy program which brings back happy memories to older patients.
