DeCristofano, Ruth (Boyer) - Woodstock
Ruth Boyer DeCristofano, 88, of Woodstock, passed away May 18, 2015 in Woodstock. She was born February 10, 1927 in Lewistown, PA. She is the daughter of the late Robert William and Pearl Naomi (Heckert) Boyer. Ruth began her career as a registered nurse at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by several years at Abington Hospital. After moving to central PA, where she worked for her father in his bookkeeping service, she then re-entered the nursing field and concluded her career at Lewistown Hospital. Ruth enjoyed singing with a Sweet Adelines Barbershop chorus and quartet in her younger years. She was also an active member of the Soroptimist International Organization, a professional womenás service organization. In later years she enjoyed making beautiful cross-stitch pieces and was an avid word puzzle solver. Throughout her life, Ruth was a prolific writer and enjoyed creating poems and prose for all occasions. Ruth was a lifelong exercise enthusiast and, since moving to Woodstock in 1996, made many friends at the fitness center. Known as "Nonna" to her grandchildren and friends; and as "Mrs. D." to friends of all ages, Ruth's home was always a welcoming place to all. She and her husband of 60 years provided a gathering place for friends and family to enjoy picnics, dinners, and celebrations of all kinds. She is survived by her husband, Edward DeCristofano; a son, Mark DeCristofano of Newville, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Ellen and Andrew McKee of Fort Valley, VA; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and George Simmons of Woodstock, VA; grandchildren, Jenna McKee Bradley and her husband Ethan of Lancaster, PA, and Caleb McKee of Strasburg, VA. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Valley Funeral Chapel, Bowmans Crossing by Gabriel Dodd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shenandoah County Free Clinic, 781 Spring Parkway, Woodstock, VA 22664 or Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
