Whetzel, Mary Isabel - New Market  
Mary Isabel Whetzel, 94, of New Market, peacefully passed from this earth on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. She was born May 22, 1921 in Fort Valley, daughter of the late Claude McKinley Cave and Hattie Bell Dinges Cave Phillips. She had worked at New Market Aileen, Inc. for 29 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Whetzel was a member of Front Royal Church of the Brethren and when health permitted attended Valley Central Church in New Market. She was married March 10, 1942 to Charles Alden Whetzel who preceded her in death March 4, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Diann Whetzel; sisters, Louise and âTeetieã Elva Mae; and a special sister Gladys. She is survived by three sons, Claude "Joe" Whetzel and wife Linda, Pastor Bobby W. Whetzel and wife Pastor Diann, Alden "Augie" Whetzel and wife Marie; grandchildren, Bryan and wife Leslie, Sherrie and husband Michael, Laurie and husband Frank, Brett and wife Tammy, Amanda, Amber, Megan, and Jeffrey; great grandchildren Kyle, Alicia, Rowen, Elie, Kainen, Hunter, Kristen, Nathaniel, Maddie, Lily, and Alana; great great grandchildren, Aldon, Jade, and Sariah. Also surviving is a special care giver Tammy Jenkins. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Mt. Jackson with the Pastor Hardy Lutz and Pastor Diann Whetzel officiating. Burial will follow at Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and Ronnie Markley. Alexander III, Edward Walter - Front Royal  
After a courageous battle with cancer, Edward Walter Alexander III, of Front Royal, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the age of 64. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Eddie was born on August 8, 1951 in Front Royal, son of the late Edward "Mutt" Alexander Jr. and Kathleen Wines Alexander. He was a 1969 graduate of Warren County High School and a 1974 graduate of Virginia Tech. In 2007, he retired after 31 years with A&P Grocery Stores. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tina D. Alexander; two children, Amanda Nicholson (Trent) and Edward "E.W." Alexander IV (Amy); two grandchildren, Natalie and Alexander Nicholson, all of Front Royal. Eddie is also survived by many cousins. Pallbearers will be Trent Nicholson, Herb Melrath, Paul Baker, Paul Dofermire, Jr. Chad Ramey and Jeffery Grove. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Eddie was the happiest in his jeans and flannel shirt. Dodson Jr., Robert E. "Bobby"  
Robert "Bobby" E. Dodson Jr., 73, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016. A native of Fauquier County, he was the son of Reba B. Coppage and Robert E. Dodson Sr. In addition to his parents, Bobby is predeceased by a daughter, Cindy Dodson; a sister, Evelyn Sowers; three brothers, Wayne Dodson, Gene Dodson and Larry Dodson; and step-father, John Coppage. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Dodson; three children, Lisa Bruce, Danny Dodson and wife Lisa Dodson, and Pam Hensley and husband Frank Hensley; eight grandchildren, Bryan Hensley, Robbie Hensley and wife Cassie Hensley, Brittney McCauley and husband Andy McCauley, Travis Bruce and wife Andrea Bruce, Abbie Bruce, Megan Bruce, Samantha Taylor and Olivia Tomblin; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Bruce, Sophia McCauley and Eli Hensley; siblings, Mony Magee and husband Bill Magee, Libby Weeks and husband Delbert Weeks, Winona Southard and husband Levi Southard, Bruce Dodson and wife Pam Dodson, and Ronnie Dodson and wife Alberta Dodson; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30 at 11 a.m. at Moser Funeral Home. Fristoe, Charles Russell - Front Royal  
Charles Russell Fristoe -- Charlie to everyone who knew him -- of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 after a brief illness. He was 94. He was an active member of the Front Royal Presbyterian Church. During World War II he served in India with the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war he served in the Air Force Reserves, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant after 33 years of service. He worked at Avtex Fibers for more than 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Loma Roope Fristoe; two brothers, John Milton Fristoe and Forrest William Fristoe; and a sister, Evelyn Grace Duckworth. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Ellen Austin; his favorite daughter, Kathryn F. Gilliam of Front Royal; his favorite son, Terry Wayne Fristoe and his wife Patricia Fristoe of Front Royal; two grandsons, Rob Traister and Aron Fristoe; four granddaughters, Laura Gilliam, Evan Dalton, Mary Gilliam and Kellyn Sawyers; and eight great-grandchildren. The Reverend Edward C. Dawkins will lead a celebration of Charlie's life at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church. Ellis Raymond "Ray" Johnson Jr., 69, of Front Royal, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Winchester Medical Center. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Johnson officiating. Mr. Johnson was born in Buchanan on June 23, 1946, a son of the late Ellis Raymond and Mary Katherine Coxton Johnson. He was a carpenter for Washington Homes and a former member of the Moose Lodge #829 in Front Royal. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Brinegar Johnson; his daughters, Kathy Ann White and husband Lee of Winchester and Tara Kelley and husband Rob of Wardensville, WV; his brothers, Howard Estle Johnson, Charles Mark Johnson and Jeff Allen Johnson, all of Front Royal and Jason Johnson of Manassas; his sisters, Juanita Smith of Manassas and Betty Stiltner of Bristol; and his grandsons, Brandon White and Hunter White. Johnson, George Richard "Dicky" - Toms Brook  
George Richard "Dicky" Johnson, 81, a resident of Toms Brook, VA, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. A memorial service for Mr. Johnson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Toms Brook United Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley A. Thompson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA. He was born in Maryland on April 16, 1935, a son of the late Marguerite Frances Holler Johnson. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War, a retired machinist with General Electric and a member of the Toms Brook United Methodist Church. He was the husband of the late Juanita Kay Putman Johnson. In addition to his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Johnson. Surviving are three sons, Burton Lane Johnson and wife Brenda of Strasburg, Bryan Lee Johnson of Toms Brook and Keith Allen Johnson and wife Melanie of Toms Brook; eight grandchildren, Sarah McKenzie and husband Robert, Jesse Vandall and husband Larry, Rebecca Johnson, Brittany Crabill and husband Travis, Alyssa Johnson, Theresa Monse and husband Wayne, Stephen Meadows and wife Joanna, and Michael Meadows; 11 great grandchildren, Regan Crabill, Destinee Monse, Kayla Monse, Zachery Monse, Brandon Monse, Natalie Vandall, Luke Vandall, Jake Vandall, Mason Meadows, Avery Meadows and Chloe Meadows; two great-great-grandchildren, Anya Hunt and Bryson Hamman; and one sister, Shelba Funk of Woodstock, VA. King, Joseph Edward - Hume  
Joseph Edward King, 61, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Laurie; two children, Sarah Elizabeth Merzlak (Jonathan) and Joseph Matthew King; one granddaughter, Shenandoah Joelle Merzlak (b. April 22, 2016); his siblings, James H. and Bonnie L. King (David Ortiz); and a multitude of close family and friends. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. and Nancy L. King. Mr. King was born in Arlington, Virginia on February 5, 1955 and was raised in Franconia, Virginia. Drawn to the beauty and history of Fauquier County, he raised his family in Hume, where he remained until taken by the Lord. Mr. King's interests and energy filled his life with people he loved and fun things to do. He played many sports as a youth and was a lifelong fan of ACC basketball. His meticulous genealogical research led him back through our nation's history beyond the Revolution. A member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Mr. King had a keen interest in U.S. and Virginia history, political science and current events. He was an accomplished musician who enjoyed playing traditional U.S. music with and for others. He played guitar, mandolin, upright bass well and enjoyed some banjo and piano; he performed in musical theatre. His paid occupations ranged from rocket science to song and dance. He managed restaurants, worked in QA for Atlantic Research Corporation and IBM, and was an entrepreneur in catering, hospitality and event management businesses. Raised Catholic, he was a non-denominational Christian who appreciated God's creation ­ he enjoyed the outdoors and cared for animals, both wild and domestic. He is also survived by Gracie the Cat. Joe's enthusiasm for life and all that he did was compelling. He had a passion for people and cultivated lasting friendships from many different walks of life. He was well loved and will be missed by many. The family will receive friends on Saturday April 30, 2016 from 11a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Royston Funeral Home Marshall, Virginia. Services will follow at Leeds Episcopal Church Hume, Virginia at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Leeds Cemetery Hume, Virginia. A reception will follow. Lupton, Hazel Andrews - Front Royal  
Hazel Andrews Lupton, 84, of Front Royal, VA, passed away at home on hospice care surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 28, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2 at 11 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dottie Holden. Burial will follow in Bennett's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Lupton was born March 16, 1932 in Warren County, VA, daughter of the late Harry Lee and Barbara Jane Andrews. She married her husband, Maynard Bayliss Lupton, on April 27, 1953. They just celebrated their 63rd Anniversary. She was a member of AARP and she and her husband were both active in the Warren County Senior Center. Surviving with her husband are two sons, Arthur Ray Lupton and David Lynn Lupton. Pallbearers will be Alvin McDonald, Delmar Lineweaver, Bobby Esteppe, George Lupton, Wayne Sealock, Steve Evans and Dennis Grove. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Duncan, Michael Dauria, Bob Castle and Barry Neighbors. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 1, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
