Anne Slaughter McWhorter(1935 - 2013)

Anne Slaughter McWhorter passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at Golden Isle Hospice in Brunswick, GA on August 24, 2013.
 
Anne was born July 13, 1935 in Flint Hill, VA.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Stanley McWhorter; her father, Sheriff Francis Warden Slaughter; her mother, Goldie Tobin Slaughter; and sister, Mary Slaughter Collins.

Surviving are her sister, Sue Slaughter Howle (Bill) of Conway, SC; nephew, Jeffrey Howle (Sharon), of Millersville, MD, their daughters Devin and Grace; niece, Victoria Howle (Kevin) of Lubbock, TX and their children, Russell and Charlotte.  Also surviving are her cherished cousins, Jimmy, Peggy and Trudy who faithfully helped with her care during her struggle with lymphoma.
 
Survivors also very dear to her heart include her step-children, Mary Ann McWhorter Riley (Matt), Mark McWhorter (Cathy), Craig McWhorter and their children and grandchildren.

Anne was a 1953 graduate of Warren County High School, and a 1957 graduate of Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond, VA.  She worked as an artist doing advertisements for department stores in the Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, GA area. She was extremely active in the Presbyterian Women's group on Jekyll Island, being recognized with Lifetime Membership status and was elected and ordained as an Elder in 2004.  
The family will receive friends at Maddox Funeral Home on Saturday, August 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, VA.
  
A memorial service will be held at a later date (to be announced) at the Presbyterian Church on Jekyll Island, GA.
