Cheryl Groves Willingham, 63, of Winchester, VA, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Winchester Medical Center.
She was born November 30, 1948 in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Bernard F. Groves, Jr. and Lois Shorter Groves.
Cheryl was the president and owner of Bernard F. Groves Monuments, Inc. until her retirement. She was a member of the Winchester-Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Berryville-Clarke County Chamber of Commerce, Winchester Host Lioness Club, Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, Preservation of Historic Winchester, Shenandoah Arts Council, SPCA, Turner Ashby Chapter #54 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Winchester Chapter #1367 of The Women of The Moose
, The Handley High School Judges Athletics Association, Braddock Street United Methodist Church and The Oglesby Sunday School Class.
Cheryl married Alan Richard "Dick" Hummel on December 24, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, David Willingham.
She is survived by her son, W. Benjamin Willingham of Winchester; her daughter, Terry W. Harper of Sumter, South Carolina; a brother, Bernard D. Groves of Winchester; two grandchildren, T. J. Harper of Sumter, South Carolina and David Harper of Alaska.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at Braddock Street Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 with Rev. Kirk Nave and Rev. Sara E. Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be W. Benjamin Willingham, Steve Pensinger, Brian Pensinger, Dennis Hinkle, Michael Groves, David Groves, Doug Sardelis, and Patrick Poston.
Honorary pallbearers will be James McFarland and Wendell Pete Whitlock.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the SPCA, Henry & William Evans Home for Children and Rouss Fire Department.
