Dorothy (Gilpin) Vann(1925-2014)

Dorothy Gilpin Vann, 88, of Woodstock, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.

Mrs. Vann was born June 30, 1925, in Gaylord, Virginia, daughter of the late Charles Clifton Longerbeam and Roberta Royston Longerbeam.

She was a telephone operator for C & P Telephone in Boyce, Virginia and later an employee of Woodbury Times, Woodbury, New Jersey.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Primetimers, Woodstock; AARP; and was a volunteer for the clothes closet and blood mobile in Woodstock.

She married Graydon Elwood Vann, Sr. in 1948 in Boyce, Virginia. Mr. Vann died April 19, 1997.

Surviving are three daughters, Roberta Catherine Morris of Griffin, Georgia, Bonnie Sue Snyder of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Martha Fulford of St. Augustine, Florida; a son, Graydon Vann, Jr. of Manassas, Virginia; two sisters, Belle Leigh of Paeonian Springs, Virginia and Lorraine Eugley of Maine; three brothers, Harold Longerbeam of Berryville, Virginia; Gary Longerbeam of Boyce, Virginia and Bill Longerbeam of Charles Town, West Virginia; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her brothers, Andrew Longerbeam, Bentley Lee Longerbeam, David Longerbeam, Shelby Longerbeam and Ray Longerbeam all preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 P. M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, with Rev. Darryl George officiating. Family and friends will be received at the Berryville VFW, immediately following the graveside service.

The family will hold a memorial service at her church at a later date.
