Franklyn Lewis Rutherford, 81, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away in his home, on August 4th, with his wife and family by his side.
Mr. Rutherford was born August 31, 1932, in Winchester, son of Walter N. and Viola Kackley Rutherford.
He was retired from the Parks and Recreation Department for the Town of Front Royal. He served in the U. S. Army
and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
in Berryville. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose
Lodge #829 of Front Royal.
Mr. Rutherford loved animals, especially cats. His favorite pastimes included building models, running model trains, and the study of history. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Dorothy Gwendolyn Rutherford, who was born in Palestine, West Virginia; daughter, Belita Boyd Ford of Front Royal and husband Harold; granddaughter, Stephanie Darr of Winchester and husband James; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Mautone, Meghan Mautone, and Allyson Mautone; brother, Walter N. "Pete" Rutherford, Jr. of Berryville and wife Marguerite; nephew, Scott Rutherford; nieces, Delores Cosgrove and Ann Newlin Lieberson; great-nephews, Daniel L. and Matthew Lieberson and Wayne and Jimmy Newlin; great-nieces, Sandra and Tammy Newlin; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mauck and her children, Jeannine Gordon and Teresa Maley and husband Major Kevin Maley; Marguerite Rutherford's children, Sandra Hansel and husband Cary, Eddie Henry, Paula Yost, and Debbie Willis and husband Al.
Mr. Rutherford was predeceased by a sister, Frances Rutherford Gregory, and her son, Ray Newlin; and a brother, Neil C. Rutherford.
There will be a private burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery, with a gathering of friends and family at a later date.
