Harold Wilson Orndorff, 67, our beloved husband, father and friend, went to be with the Lord in heaven on Monday, December 24, 2012 at his home in Winchester, Virginia. He was born on February 5, 1945 in Woodstock, Virginia to Robert and Ruth Foltz Orndorff.
Harold grew up on a farm in Toms Brook, Virginia. He graduated from Strasburg High School in Strasburg, Virginia in 1964. After high school, he began working for Virginia Highway Department as a snow plow driver and part of the asphalt crew who completed Interstate 81. In 1966, he began working for Hal Metal Company where he was a mechanic and then in 1968 he took at job with Apex as a machinist. After getting married he began working at Crown Cork & Seal in 1970 as a mechanic. In 1971, he began working for The Washington Post where he was a distributor for 36 years for the Winchester area. He also was the owner and operator of J&H Trucking, which hauled the Washington Post for 32 years. Harold finally retired in 2009.
Harold married Judy Ellen Higgs on November 3, 1968 in Winchester, Virginia. They were happily married for 44 years.
Harold was a member of the Massanutten Antique Tractor and Gasoline Engine Club of Edinburg, Virginia since 1995; he held the office of President and many other chairmanships. He also received the Spark Plug award which recognized the outstanding member and their contribution. He was also a member of the Berryville Steam and Gas Engine Club of Berryville, Virginia. Harold was also a member of New Life Christian Church. Harold enjoyed restoring antique tractors, driving his tractors in parades, being with all his fellow tractor buddies, hunting, fishing, and camping. Most of all, his heart were his seven grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Ruth M. Fultz Orndorff; his brother Larry M. Orndorff; and his son, Robert Loring Orndorff.
Harold is survived by his spouse, Judy of Winchester, Virginia; his daughter, Kelley (Brian) Henry of Winchester, Virginia; daughter, Julie (Ralph) Kelchner of Winchester, Virginia; daughter, Amy (Scott) Bloom of Glen Allen, Virginia; his brother, Wayne (Debra) Orndorff of Fort Valley, Virginia; brother, Eugene (Nancy) Orndorff of Toms Brook, Virginia; his grandchildren Austin and Aiden Henry, Jarett and Ella Kelchner, and Reese, Madison, and Taff Bloom; and number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 228 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, Virginia on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Christian Church, 2930 Middle Road, Winchester, Virginia on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Sunset View Memorial Gardens Woodstock, Virginia at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be David Licklider, Carroll Youngblood, Jim Youngblood, Josh Hartman, Todd McNemar, Jeremy Orndorff, Chris Orndorff, Gene Smith, and Johnny Heath.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Bromley, Robert Brown, Jr., Pat Dawson, Jim Doolittle, Bill Giles, Jack Heath, Junior Kibler, Sonny Merrick, Jim Stup, Bill Wetzel, Charlie Wolfe, and Tim Travers.
