Hazel (Morris) Pomeroy

Hazel Morris Pomeroy, age 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2013, at Alexandria Place, Gastonia, NC.

A native of Keokee, VA, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Hattie Morris of Keokee, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Worthy Pomeroy. Hazel also had 6 sisters and 2 brothers, all of whom predeceased her except Oka Jean Shuler of Garden City, MI.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister whose primary purpose focused on her family. She had 23 nieces and nephews and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Hazel spent a majority of her working career as a dietitian in the Warren County school system.

A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of Happy Creek United Methodist Church in Front Royal, VA. For the last 10 years of her life, she had been living in Belmont, NC and leaves behind many friends at Woodlawn Haven Assisted Living facility where she was loved and cared for by staff and residents alike.

She is survived by her son, Ralph Steven Pomeroy, wife, Jeanne and grandsons, Brian and Corey, great-granddaughter, Autumn and great-grandson, Alexander. Also survived by son, Barry Morris Pomeroy, wife, Tracy, granddaughter, Levacy (Nathan), great-granddaughters, Gracie and Sophie and grandson, Rudy (Gena), great-grandson, Braden and great-granddaughter, Ava.

Family will receive friends at Maddox Funeral Home on Thursday, February 21 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service following in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in a private family ceremony at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the , P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
