Jack Booth, 85, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Booth was born in 1927 in St. Charles, Virginia, the son of the late Gilmer and Glenna Booth.
He grew up in Marlinton, West Virginia, and was a graduate of Romney High School. Mr. Booth was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy
. He was a graduate of Potomac State College and Shepherd University, receiving a graduate Degree from Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Booth taught biology and coached basketball at Piedmont High School in West Virginia, as well as teaching and coaching at Handley High School in Winchester, Virginia. He moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he taught biology and coached football at Nova High School, later becoming the Dean of Students at Attucks Middle School in Hollywood, Florida. Mr. Booth returned to Winchester to become the Assistant Principal at Handley High School, and concluded his career as Principal at Frederick Douglas Elementary School.
Mr. Booth was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Potomac State College and Shepherd University.
He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church, Winchester Retired Teachers, WMC Auxiliary, Shepherd University Ram Gridiron Club and the JAA.
Mr. Booth was a great promoter of physical fitness and a loyal fan of the Miami Dolphins. He was a voracious reader and loved golf.
He married Peggy Booth, the love of his life, on December 21, 1950, in Keyser, West Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 62 years are his children, Ann Colson and husband, Bob, David Booth and wife, Rebecca, Sally Stryker and husband, Mike, all of Winchester, Jackie Jack and husband, Scott, of Jacksonville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Sara Colson, Kyle Colson, Caleb Booth and wife, Abby, Chris Stryker, Julie Stryker, Rachel Livermore and husband, Toby, Mary Clare Jack, Jenifer Jack and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Sara Pugh and Reverend Kirk Nave officiating. Interment will be private.
