Jane Elizabeth Collins Pike, 76, of Middletown, VA, passed away at her home on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Mrs. Pike was born in Wilmington, VT on June 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Walter and Jeanette Johnson Collins. Jane grew up as a child in Brattleboro, VT and was educated in the Brattleboro school system.
She served as a Guardian ad Litem for the Windham of Vermont District Court acting as a voice of the child in the court system. In her capacity as an advocate, she made a great difference in the lives of many troubled children.
After she retired in 1997, Jane moved with her long time partner to Middletown and where she has been active in the local quilting guild.
She is survived by her partner and best friend, Norman T. Paust of Middletown; a son, Barry Pike and his wife Diane of Lillburn, GA; a daughter, Lisa Pike Gilbeau of Salisbury, NC; a brother, Richard Farnum, Jr. of Guilford, VT; three sisters, Joan Collins Ballou of Inverness, FL, Caroline Andrews Kontos of Alton, NH and Patricia Farnum Hemingway of Brattleboro, VT; five grandchildren, James Pike and Alexander Pike of Lillburn, GA, Heather Pike Bedard of Wardsboro, VT, Adam Gilbeau of Dallas, GA, and William Gilbeau of Salisbury, NC; three great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
A brother, Leland "Bud" Andrews, Jr. preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 10, 2013, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Stephens City, VA. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Thomas H. Keithley officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown. Burial will be at a later date in the Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT.
