Msgt. John Franklin "Johnnie" Dofflemyer, (USAFR, Ret.), 95, of Front Royal, VA, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Jerome Fasano. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Mr. Dofflemyer was born November 11, 1917 in Page County, VA, son of the late Hiram Jackson Dofflemyer and Mattie B. Jenkins Dofflemyer.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II
and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1972. He also worked for Avtex Fibers in Front Royal and retired as a fork lift operator.
Mr. Dofflemyer was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 50 years as well as a member of Knights of Columbus John Carrell Jenkins Council 7771 where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member and former commander of American Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, member of VFW
Post 1860, and a former member of Warren County Izaak Walton League, Loyal Order of Moose
, and the Holy Name Society.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary T. Hanlon Dofflemyer.
Surviving are his loving wife, Norma J. Dofflemyer of Front Royal; seven children and their spouses, John Dofflemyer, Jr. and wife Renate of Chesapeake, Carol D. Smith and husband Greg of Greensboro, NC, Barbara A. Bray and husband Terry of Cape Coral, FL, Robert Dofflemyer and wife Nancy of Fredericksburg, Francis "Tony" Dofflemyer and wife Tina of Richmond, Joseph "Joe" Dofflemyer and wife Donna of Front Royal, and Michelle D. Williams and husband Michael of Stephens City; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Todd Smith, Troy Smith, Brian Dofflemyer, Chris Dofflemyer, Kevin Dofflemyer, Joe Dofflemyer, Jr., Terry Bray, Jr. and John F. Dofflemyer, III.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.
