Josephine (Miller) Lynn(1916 - 2013)

Josephine Miller Lynn, 96, of Woodstock, widow of William Nelson Lynn, Sr., died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Woodstock by Rev. Nathan Robinson. Burial will follow at Massanutten Cemetery.

She was born August 28, 1916 at Woodstock, Virginia, the daughter of the late Joseph Russell and Mary Hoshour Miller.

Mrs. Lynn was a graduate of Woodstock High School and Harrisonburg State Teachers College (JMU). She taught school for 40 years. She taught school in Prince William County and Orange County, VA, but most of her teaching career was in Shenandoah County. She served on the Woodstock Park Commission, the Emanuel Lutheran Church Council, and the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Board. Mrs. Lynn was the first woman elected to the Woodstock Town Council and served there for 16 years.

She was an accomplished classical violinist, having played in classical orchestras in the area. She also was a honorary member of the Shenandoah Garden Club. She was a lifelong member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda L. Doggins of Yorktown and her son, William Nelson Lynn, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Manassas. She is also survived by a niece, Cindy Hottle Grimes of Penn Laird; a nephew, Larry Hottle of Strasburg; and great nieces, Sarah Hottle and MacKenzie Grimes.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Woodstock Fire Department, or the Woodstock Rescue Squad.
