Lewis Calvin Baer Sr(1929 - 2014)

Chief Petty Officer Lewis Calvin Baer, Sr., Ret. Navy, 84, of Winchester, died March 12, 2014 in his home.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens at Waterlick, with full military honors.

Chief Petty Officer Baer was born September 19, 1929 in Petersburg, West Virginia. son of the late Mack Baer, Sr. and Pearl Elizabeth Mayhew Baer-Brown.

Chief Petty Officer Baer served his country in the United States Navy, having served during WW II, Korea and Vietnam. He had worked after his retirement from the military for Big A Auto Parts Store in Winchester. Chief Petty Officer Baer was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 824, Winchester, a 32nd degree Freemason, A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Masonic Unity Lodge No. 146 of Front Royal, A Noble Shriner of Shriners International, and the Giles B. Cook Post 53 of the American Legion.

Surviving are one daughter, Gena Baer-Williams and husband Greg of Front Royal; one son, Lewis Calvin Baer, Jr. of Front Royal; one step-son, Gary Lineberg and wife Mary of Bunkerhill, WV; three sisters, Vivian Baer-Gill of Stephens City, Joan Baer-Whittington of Front Royal and Diana Baer-Hickerson of Stephens City; one brother, Douglas Baer of Front Royal; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Brown-Baer and his second wife, Barbara Leigh Burke-Baer; and two brothers, Mack Baer, Jr. and Robert R. "Bobby" Brown.
