Raymond L. Fugatt, Sr., of Bentonville, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 in his home.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal. The Rev. Dr. C. Wayne Woodard will officiate. Interment will follow at the Midland Brethren Church Cemetery located on Old Carolina Rd. (Rt. 602) in Midland, VA.
Ray was born in Ringgold, GA, on October 5, 1931, to Eva and Calvin Fugatt. He married Alice Whitmer on June 6, 1952. They enjoyed 61 years together.
After finishing high school in Ringgold, GA, Ray joined the Army
to serve his country during the Korean War
. He retired from WMATA/METRO in 1981 as shop supervisor. After retiring, Ray became a farmer and a lifetime member of the South Warren Volunteer Fire Department. He was a founding member of the American Legion Post #0274 in Lusby, Maryland.
Ray was a man of many talents and always willing to help someone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Fugatt; four daughters, Barbara Johnson (Kevin), Dorothy Everstine (Joe Horak), Brenda Smith (Michael), Theresa Curtis (Bruce); and one son, Robert Fugatt (Michelle); 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sons, Raymond L. Fugatt, Jr. and Eugene C. Fugatt.
Pallbearers will be Robert Fugatt, Kevin Johnson, James Johnson, Bruce Curtis, Raymond Curtis, Patrick Curtis, Ronnie Davis, Jr. and Michael Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Horak and Neal Pennington.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
