Col. Richard Steele Medding, USA, retired, of Strasburg, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home.
Col. Medding was born July 30, 1925 in Winthrop, Massachusetts; the son of Walter Lyman Medding and Elizabeth Steele Sherman Medding.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in Europe with the 94th Infantry Division, 319th Combat Engineers Battalion from August 1944 to February 1946. He served in the U.S. Army
Active Reserves until 1985. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering after World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Sidney Landon Medding; two daughters, Elise Medding Fare and Elizabeth Tate Thompson; five sons, James Sherman Medding, James Hurst Stephens, Richard Walton Stephens, David Ford Medding, and William Landon Medding; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Anglican Church on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Raleigh Watson officiating. Burial will be private.
