Robert Edward "Bob" Laing, age 94, of Front Royal, joined his loving wife Lucille on October 23, 2012.
Bob was born January 14, 1918, in Front Royal, Virginia. He was the eleventh of the twelve children of Silas Washington Laing and Ada Lou (Robinson) Laing.
Bob will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He lived his entire life in Warren County, Virginia while he traveled extensive in the Air Force Reserve.
Bob was married to Lucille Pearl (Dodson) of Rappahannock County on December 27, 1938. He lost his loving wife on January 29, 2001, and his son, Terry, on August 14, 2009.
He is survived by four children, P. Dianne Kent, Linda (Cliff) Davis, Carol Laing, and June Smeltzer; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Family night will be held at Maddox Funeral Home on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia. Burial will be held with full military honors at Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery, 1270 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA 22602.
Bob retired from Avtex Fibers (formerly American Viscose) in 1980. He served two separate tours of duty in the U.S. Army
(1936 and 1942); and was a proud member of the Air Force Reserves from 1955 to 1978, when he retired as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, the Loyal Order of Moose
Lodge No. 829, Disabled American Veterans
, Stonewall Jackson, Chapter 9, and the Masonic Lodge (Shriner) #146 in Front Royal, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Terry Laing, Steve Johnston, Robert Johnston, Robert Wright, Bobby Laing, Robert Simms, Gene Mills, and Wade Fox. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Laing, Junior Catlett, Sid Chapman and the special staff at Lynn Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, 22 West 8th Street, Front Royal, VA 22630, attention Finance officer John Curle.
